Roots and Grow Farm is an aspirational journey towards creating a farm ecosystem, reinvigorating the successful small-scale family farm lifestyle, and synergistically coupling the wisdom of previous generations with the appropriate scale tools, technology, and science of today.

About Us

We are your Local Farmers in Eastern Idaho

Our story is about taking the leap into our farm dream, the challenges, successes, and lessons we learned along the way…

Roots and Grow Farm represents an achievement in our journey that was born out of a concern for environmental sustainability and nutritious food.

Russell and Gaby Clark were newly weds living in San Diego and putting actions towards their values.

“We started a compost system to divert our food scraps from the landfill, but soon enough we were creating a powerful soil amendment that needed a use.”

Russell finally got to scratch his itch and made a small 10’x10’ garden space scrapped together with free pallets in our urban front yard of Del Mar, CA.

“It was a humble start, but we caught the bug for growing our own fresh food!”

In November 2017 as we continued to pursue this new passion for growing food ecologically we decided to move to a family farm property that had been in production for generations.

Located in Saint Anthony, ID the farm is framed with the majestic Teton Mountains as a backdrop. We began the hard work and challenges of starting a Homestead and managing an active Farm. We persevered through all the struggles of creating a home, including a well, heat for the winter, and a full renovation of our farmhouse in an Idaho winter.

“Once Spring came we were yearning to finally work outside.”

With our home “complete” we were able to finally focus our attention on the land. We created a market garden for supplying the best food for ourselves with an abundance to share with our community.

We could see the beginnings of our dream farm business and becoming local farmers.

“At first it was just a lifestyle, but before we knew it we were feeling like reluctant business people and needed to work towards making our lifestyle dream a financially sustainable farm business.”

We are a 2-acre Farmstead with a Market Garden producing a wonderful selection of seasonal produce. From the beginning our interest has been to improve the connection between people, their food, and the planet.

Our farm is part of a larger 88 acre farm that we manage and hope to grow into with time. Offering us the opportunity for appropriate growth and utilization of regenerative farming practices, we desire to include a holistic grazing management system. We also want crop rotations to include cover cropping and nitrogen fixing plants to build soil health and sequester carbon and nutrients into the soil.

“As lovers of the outdoors that have had so many opportunities to recreate and admire wild natural spaces our passion is to align those beliefs with our life on the farm and protect this one planet that we all inhabit in our own little way.”

We strive to add Roots and Grow Farm to the growing list of emerging small scale local farmers that are making an impact and moving the story forward of the connection between the soil, food, people, and planet. We hope to inspire others to create their own stories of small farm success!

Please join us and follow along on our farm journey.

Thank you,

Your local farmers.

The Food

It all starts in the soil health. In a world of extractive practices, we focus on regenerative practices, and healthy soils provide the best tasting most nutrient dense foods, full of both macro and micro nutrients.
